English Language Programme

Established in 1950, the University of New Brunswick English Language Programme (ELP) is a charter member of the former Council of Second Language Programs in Canada, an original member of Languages Canada, and an affiliate member of TESOL International (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages).

ELP has been accredited by the Federal Government Summer Language Bursary Program every year since the inception of the cross-Canada project in 1971.  This federal program has been renamed as the Explore program.

For the past thirty-eight years of its history, ELP has been serving the local, provincial, national, and international business/professional/student/immigrant communities with custom-designed services throughout the year.

Individuals enroll in ELP formats both on short-term and long-term bases.  Client listings include:  governments, both provincial and federal, major industries and international corporations such as Alcan, Bombardier, Cascades, CN Rail, Domtar, Noranda and Smurfit-Stone, global educational agencies and institutions, the small business community, service agencies, and entrepreneurial endeavours.

The holistic, environmental living/learning ELP methodology is rapid and intensive, designed to assist non-anglophones to function immediately, competently, and comfortably in an English milieu.  The UNB English Language Programme has, within its repertoire, a substantial number of courses and services designed to enable individuals of all proficiency levels to acquire confidence and competence in the target language.

Clients of all ages and cultural backgrounds provide an exciting multinational learning environment.  The Programme attracts a wide array of learners from over 70 countries around the world.
